Inside every uniform is a human being. In the retrospective view of this world’s past wars, this is all too often forgotten. Those uniforms were worn by fathers, husbands, sons, brothers, neighbors, and friends.
The number of the fallen is so unimaginably high that we cannot truly comprehend it. Countless orphans and widows were the direct result of the First World War. Nearly every one of us has lost ancestors to those man-devouring wars.
But the call of the fallen and the war-scarred must not fade. We want to tear your relatives from oblivion and offer them a stage. A stage on which the stories of those silent heroes can be told once more.
As I have said in many interviews, the spark that ignited Kanonenfieber came while translating my great-grandfather’s diary. This striking and intense experience is something I want to place close to your hearts and share with you. Question your relatives, search for old documents, and—if you are ready—share the stories with us.
On our website, you have the opportunity to submit the story of your ancestor and share it with us. On February 13th, 2026, I will select one of the stories and use it as source material for a new Kanonenfieber song.
We must not forget.
